PTI’s Marwat served with show-cause yet again over ‘irresponsible’ statements

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leadership handed another show-cause notice to the outspoken Sher Afzal Marwat this Saturday, calling him out for his recent rash comments about party members.

Earlier in the week on May 8, Marwat made headlines for lashing out at party colleagues Shibli Faraz and Omar Ayub, following a refusal for his requested appointment with PTI’s founder, Imran Khan, at Adiala Jail.

Omar Ayub, the PTI General Secretary, dispatched the show-cause notice, which accused Marwat of stepping out of line with party norms and causing internal rifts with his public statements.

The notice also reminded Marwat that he had been warned earlier by the chairman against transgressing party guidelines.

“His behavior and utterances have caused friction amongst the party cadre,” stated the show-cause notice.

Marwat has been given a deadline of three days to submit a written response to justify why he shouldn’t face formal censure.

Should he fail to respond, the notice cautioned that he would face party-imposed sanctions.

Marwat has been entangled in multiple disputes recently, drawing criticism for stirring internal strife in PTI.

Additionally, on May 8, while addressing media near Adiala Jail, Marwat was surrounded by controversy when his entourage responded aggressively to a journalist questioning Marwat’s alleged efforts to obtain the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairmanship by imploring PML-N’s Khawaja Asif and Speaker Ayaz Sadiq.

Despite initial backing by Imran Khan for the PAC chair position, Marwat saw his nomination revoked after party leaders objected.

Consequently, PTI’s political wing replaced him with Sheikh Waqas Akram in the role.

Imran Khan reportedly stripped Marwat of various party roles this month, including positions concerning access to Khan during his jail time.

Marwat was also ordered to dismantle his social media collective, all based on recommendations from the PTI’s central committee.

The show-cause notice follows an earlier one from February 24, wherein PTI reproached Marwat for on-air negative comments directed at the party’s stand-in Chairman, Barrister Gohar Ali Khan.
