PEMRA bans airing material about ‘ongoing court cases’

ISLAMABAD: In a recent development, the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has issued an order prohibiting television channels from broadcasting content related to active court proceedings until a decisive judgment is rendered, as reported by ARY News.

The governing body for media regulation announced a prohibition on disseminating news concerning cases that are currently under judicial consideration, mandating that broadcasters limit their coverage to matters that serve the interest of the public.

PEMRA has additionally instructed television networks to refrain from airing their ‘views on current judicial disputes’. The authority issued caution against the discussion of ongoing legal cases in televised segments in a manner that might ‘sway’ ongoing investigations or the legal process.

The authority stressed the importance of restricting the flow of information through the media to only what is considered essential for public knowledge.
