Pakistani journalist banned from entering Greece

ISLAMABAD: The Greek authorities have enforced a 5-year prohibition on Mona Khan, a Pakistani journalist, from entering Greece, reported diplomatic sources.
As per sources, Mona Khan has been instructed to exit Greece within 20 days and her identity has been inserted into the Schengen Information System.
If Khan endeavors to enter any other Schengen nation, she will be restricted from entering all Schengen territories, however, she can travel to any other non-Schengen nation from Pakistan, sources elaborated.
Sources conveyed that Mona Khan’s name was included in the National Security list just 24 hours prior to her detention, yet the authorities have not unveiled the reasons for listing Mona Khan’s name.

Moreover, a social media campaign has also been initiated in Greece against the Pakistani journalist, targeting her identity, accomplishments, and detention, diplomatic sources mentioned.
It is noteworthy that Mona Khan was detained in Greece for unfurling the Pakistani flag during a hiking expedition.
Mona Khan, an anchorperson for a state-run TV network, was on a trip to Greece with her son when she was apprehended by authorities for exhibiting the Pakistani flag.

Subsequently, Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch confirmed the journalist’s release, stating “The Pakistani Embassy hired a lawyer and ensured consular access to Mona Khan. Embassy representatives visited her in jail to offer support and facilitate her release.”
