Twinkle Khanna, also known for her witty persona as Mrs Funnybones, has opened up about the realities of motherhood. Writing for The Times of India, Twinkle, who has been Akshay Kumar’s spouse since January 2001, reminisced about embracing motherhood for the first time in 2002 with the birth of their son Aarav. ‘Breastfeeding is Essential, but Keep Fit’

Twinkle expressed her reflections on motherhood, contrasting past expectations with her experience as a contemporary mom. “My venture into motherhood started in 2002 with the arrival of my son. It was then that my husband (Akshay Kumar) humorously explained my absence to a guest by saying I was ‘milking’, marking my shift from glamorous diva to nurturing mother…”

She continued to describe the complexities of parenting, commenting, “We are expected to breastfeed while maintaining our figures. We are to prepare nutrient-rich meals for our children and resist eating their leftovers if we wish to regain our pre-childbirth waistlines. We must provide them with entertainment, help them socialize with the right company, and admire their imperfect artwork as if we were subjects venerating an invisible monarchy. This should all be done with a technique termed ‘gentle parenting’, a far cry from the more regimented upbringing meted out by our own parents.”

Highlight on Twinkle’s Professional Path

Twinkle stepped away from the silver screen after featuring in films like ‘Barsaat’ (1995), which earned her the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut, and other hits such as ‘Jab Pyaar Kisise Hota Hai’ (1998), ‘Seenu’ (1999), ‘Baadshah’ (1999), ‘Joru Ka Ghulam’ (2000), and ‘Love Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega’ (2001).

In 2015, Twinkle ventured into authorship with her debut non-fiction work, ‘Mrs Funnybones’. She followed up with ‘The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad’ (2016), a compilation of short stories. Her subsequent creation was ‘Pyjamas Are Forgiving’ (2018), and her latest literary contribution, ‘Welcome to Paradise’, hit the bookshelves in 2023.
