In “Bhaiyya Ji,” Bajpayee portrays the central character determined to rectify his brother’s untimely demise.

“My youth was spent idolizing the cinema greats. They were my heroes—Shatrughan Sinha, Vinod Khanna, Amitabh Bachchan, Jeetendra, and more. Their influence on me was profound, molding my portrayal to exude an allure that the public would equate with the iconic Bhaiyya Ji,” Bajpayee expressed in a conversation with PTI.

He adds, “Bhaiyya Ji stands as an emblem of aspiration. He’s someone the audience should admire. I incorporated their traits into this character to capture that essence.”

Manoj Bajpayee recounted his childhood experiences, stating that action movies always left him feeling like a champion.

He stated, “A riveting action flick propels the viewer into a euphoric state, lending them a sense of heroism as they leave the cinema. This is what an effective commercial film should achieve.”

Bajpayee sees himself as a genuine ‘desi actor,’ rather than leaning into ‘superstar’ or ‘action star’ monikers.

He asserts, “As a desi actor, I hold a deep admiration for our traditions, rural roots, and the narratives of our homeland. It’s important our cinematic tales reflect our culture, presenting heroes who resonate with us, not some foreign archetype. What counts are well-told stories with a strong indigenous foundation,” he affirms.

Bajpayee acknowledged the exhaustive action sequences he performed himself in the film and commended action director Fefsi Vijayan for his unwavering standards.

“Shooting this movie was an immense challenge, with most of the stunt work executed by me. Fefsi Vijayan—legend of the Tamil film industry and a stringent mentor—insisted on authenticity in the action, and his relentless drive paid off marvelously on screen,” he recounted.

“Bhaiyya Ji” marks Bajpayee’s 100th film, joining the ranks of his influential works like “Satya,” “Shool,” and “Gangs of Wasseypur.”

Discussing the film’s creative choices, Bajpayee disclosed, “There’s a conscious decision to exclude item numbers, challenging standard conventions. Female characters in this movie are portrayed as formidable as Bhaiyya Ji himself, as we aim to go beyond cliché portrayals of women and motherhood in mainstream cinema.”

Bajpayee reflected on the significance of reaching the 100-film landmark, remarking that it feels like a miraculous achievement for him, coming from a small village to make a big impact in the industry.

The supporting cast includes Suvinder Vicky, Jatin Goswami, Vipin Sharma, and Zoya Hussain, as ‘Bhaiyya Ji’ comes from a collaboration of Bhanushali Studios Limited, SSO Productions, and Aurega Studios. The production team features Vinod Bhanushali, Kamlesh Bhanushali, Samiksha Oswal, Shael Oswal, and Vikram Khakhar, with the premiere set for May 24 in theatres.
