A Year Without Work for Ratna Pathak Shah

Upon being queried about the contemporary focus on looks over the artistic skill of an actor, Ratna candidly responded with a firm agreement. She elaborated, “It’s the brutal truth—I can’t deny it. It’s not the actors who are solely at fault as these are the criteria that are being valued. Work opportunities seem to be linked with one’s Instagram popularity or so I have been made aware.”

Ratna’s Statement on Not Being on Instagram

Ratna expressed, “Not being on Instagram may very well be a factor for my current employment drought, as I haven’t been approached for a year. One has to wonder, where does an actor go to refine their craft when such superficial metrics become significant? It’s quite a conundrum.”
