Russian President Vladimir Putin has extended an invitation to the King of Bahrain, Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, to participate in the upcoming BRICS 2024 summit in Kazan. Recent information indicates that Al Khalifa swiftly accepted the invitation. Last week, the king engaged in discussions with President Putin and signed joining documents in Moscow.

Bahrain’s increasing interest in the BRICS initiative, along with its strong relationship with Russia, positions the nation as a potential candidate for joining the alliance. The BRICS group plans to further expand at the forthcoming summit by extending invites to more countries.

This expansion is a follow-up to the successful induction of four new members at the start of 2024 and the issuance of five official invitations at last year’s summit. Preliminary reports reveal that dozens of countries, including those in Africa, Asia, South America, the Middle East, and even Europe, are eager to join the group and hope to receive summit invites. Furthermore, countries aiming to join BRICS are encouraged to support the bloc’s mission to replace the US dollar.

The group has successfully moved away from the greenback and has inspired other nations to do likewise, aiming to utilize alternate currencies, such as local ones or a newly proposed BRICS currency, to become the new leading global reserve in trade, surpassing the US dollar. The BRICS Summit 2024 is scheduled to take place this October.
