Teenager dies after being pulled from river in Northamptonshire | Northamptonshire

A young man of 17 years has tragically passed away following a swimming incident in the River Nene, as confirmed by the Northamptonshire Police.

The teenager, identified as Ronalds Abele, faced difficulties while bathing at the Embankment area in Wellingborough last Friday. The emergency response teams were quick to respond and extract him from the water.

Regrettably, he succumbed to his ordeal in the hospital.

A social media release from the police delineated the harrowing event, “A 17-year-old from Wellingborough has tragically lost his life due to a drowning event in the locality.”

They detailed: “Authorities were alerted shortly past 1:45pm [Friday] upon receiving distress signals that a youth was struggling while swimming in the open waters at the Embankment.

“Rescue teams from Rushden and Irthlingborough, including a specialized crew from Mereway, carried out the rescue. Following the extraction, he was transported by air to Northampton General Hospital, where his death was confirmed.

“The police have formally identified the young man as Ronalds Abele as of today [Saturday].”

A representative from Northamptonshire Police asserted: “The occurrence is profoundly sorrowful, and the aggrieved family has asked for their privacy during this intensely trying period.”
