Disturbing video appears to show Sean “Diddy” Combs assaulting singer Cassie Ventura

A concerning security tape broadcasted by CNN reportedly presents a violent encounter involving Sean “Diddy” Combs and his then-girlfriend, singer Cassie Ventura, in a hotel corridor in Los Angeles back in 2016. This footage is a recent addition to a spate of accusations against the music industry personality.

The footage, released on Friday, allegedly captures Combs, scantily clad in a white towel, engaging in physical aggression against R&B artist Cassie. The video depicts Combs pushing and throwing Cassie, as well as hurling a vase towards her.

This video hails from March 5, 2016, and seems to match an incident Cassie mentioned in a lawsuit from November, where she cited ongoing sexual abuse and other forms of violence by Combs.

Cassie claims in the lawsuit that Combs compensated the hotel $50,000 for the security video. CNN didn’t disclose how it acquired the footage but confirmed its authenticity by comparing it with public images of the InterContinental Hotel.

Shortly after Cassie filed her lawsuit, a settlement was reached, yet this has not halted the intensity of the scrutiny Combs faces, as additional lawsuits emerged in the subsequent months. There is also an ongoing federal investigation involving Combs, related to sex trafficking, prompting raids on his properties in Los Angeles and Miami.

No immediate response came from Combs’ representatives regarding the video. However, he has openly denied past allegations and through his legal team, he maintains his innocence and intends to vigorously defend himself.

“The deeply upsetting footage only solidifies the allegations of Combs’ predatory nature,” stated Douglas Wigdor, Cassie’s lawyer. “Ms. Ventura’s bravery in bringing these acts to light is commendable beyond words.”

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has taken notice of the video, describing it as distressing. However, they pointed out that, due to the time that has elapsed since the incident, they are unable to pursue charges against Combs.

The office encouraged those who witnessed or experienced a crime to come forward and seek assistance from their Bureau of Victims Services, despite the fact that no case related to the attack has yet been presented against Combs.

Named victims of sexual abuse are generally kept confidential by The Associated Press unless they choose to make their identities public, as Ventura has.

The suit recounts that prior to the incident captured on video, Combs became inordinately inebriated, assaulted Ventura, and caused physical injury. When Combs fell asleep, Ventura attempted to leave, as seen in the footage with her belongings in tow as she approached the elevators.

The lawsuit further details that Combs proceeded to scream at her upon waking, pursuing her down the hall, resulting in the physical altercation caught on camera.

According to the lawsuit, Ventura succeeded in escaping, only to return later, fearing worse retribution. During her return, hotel employees encouraged her to seek refuge in her apartment. The lawsuit adds that she ultimately took refuge with a friend in Florida, following the incident.

The odds are against criminal charges being brought against Combs due to statute of limitation constraints in California for assault or battery, depending on the classification of the charges.

Recent legal motions by Combs and his team aim to dismiss some allegations from a lawsuit accusing him of sexual assault in 1991, and an entire lawsuit that alleges he participated in the rape of a 17-year-old girl in 2003. Combs vehemently labels the allegations false.

The release of the video contributes to the ongoing narrative as Combs stands accused of serious allegations whilst his legal representatives denounce the exertion of “military-level force” in search warrants served against his residences by Homeland Security Investigations on March 25.

As a prominent figure in the world of hip-hop, Combs has transformed his musical achievements into a diverse empire, extending into areas such as fashion and television. However, recent allegations have necessitated him to step back from certain business activities.

Combs and Ventura’s relationship began in 2007, enduring a rocky path over a span exceeding ten years.

Known for her smash hit “Me & U,” which topped the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart in 2006, Ventura has also made a name for herself in the acting world, starring in “Empire,” “Step Up 2: The Streets,” and “Spenser Confidential.”
